Ensembles that meet during the school day, perform at concerts and special events, and receive 1 academic credit. Students are expected to practice daily.
Wind Ensemble (Advanced Band)
2019-2020 School Year = Period 7
The Wind Ensemble gathers Osbourn Park’s most talented wind, brass, and percussion students to perform the finest wind music from a repertoire that spans the 16th through the 21st centuries. To earn a chair in this ensemble, students must pass a band placement audition at Osbourn Park with the director. Students in this ensemble attend District Band Assessment, local festivals, collegiate workshops, and perform 5-6 times per school year.
For their 2018-2019 tour, the Wind Ensemble visited Philadelphia to study with Temple University Bands and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city.
Symphonic Band (Intermediate Band)
2019-2020 School Year = Period 4
The Symphonic Band is comprised of wind, brass, and percussion students in grades 10-12. To earn a chair in this ensemble, students must pass a band placement audition at Osbourn Park with the director. Students in this ensemble attend District Band Assessment and perform 4-5 times per school year.
Concert Band (9th Grade BAnd - Wind players only)
2019-2020 School Year = Period 1
The Concert Band is comprised of entirely 9th grade students. These students meet every day during and study the fundamentals of performance, musicianship, and music theory. Students in this course learn how their instruments works and how to work with others to create music. This course is a prerequisite for advanced wind band study at Osbourn Park. Students will be expected to perform individually, in a small group, and as a wind band. Students in this ensemble perform in concert 3-4 times per school year.
Percussion Ensemble (Band/Percussion - Percussion only)
2019-2020 School Year = Period 2
This course is designed for percussionists in grades 9-12. This course focuses on music literacy and percussion performance technique. Students in this class will study and perform on all percussion instruments and be expected to read notated music accurately. Students will perform percussion ensemble music and marching percussion cadences 3-4 times per school year.
